Miracles Do Happen!

Postby ZMAN on Thu Jul 12, 2007 9:33 am

So as you all know I've been having mechanical problems with my old school antique Specialized Carbon Epic, which I've faithfully nursed since new in 1993, out of the goodness of his heart Bob Summersett let me use his derailer hanger straightner to get my steed back in action, but still having multiple shifting and chain drop problems even so during the PRC Racing series it was starting to get to me.
I've been coming to the realization that I probably need to break down and replace her. Well finances have not allowed this, we have been in the process of sacrificing to build the church and other priorities, I felt that I might have to consider selling something to fund a bike, or simply go without for a couple more years. Well last night was the awards banquet for Prairie City, I placed 3rd in my class and I attended for the BBQ and to see racing friends, it was a good time and I recieved a nice swag bag and some recognition for my points standing it was very cool. (Pete you were missed) also a 3rd. What a great bunch of people that put that series on for the last 12 years. All the sponsors of the series gave away alot of swag for all the participants, I think everyone there got a little something, however the big score was the Ventana Single Speed and the grand prize an X-5 Full suspension bike valued at $3200 and $4500 respectively. They called the name for the Single Speed which went to a Ventana Dealer, he was cool and put it back in the drawing after a long bit of second thought. Then they called two names for the X-5, both names were guys that were there but left early, it was now 8:30 and getting dark. You guessed it, my son Cole and I said a little prayer and sure enough it was answered and they called my name!? I was stunned to say the least and I still am in disbelief, never do I think I could have ever popped for a $4,500 bike, but here is sits in my garage. It's a large frame so thanks to Myke at Velocity Bikes in Winters, I was able to swap frames for a medium. Thanks Myke.

I've got a cushy ride, my back will thank me, and I thank God.

Team MCG finished 4th! Not bad for missing races and Jeff only being able to score three of 12 for the team, Thanks Jeff.

Oh, that's a crappy bike, I'm sure you don't want it. I'll tell you what I'll do for you...I'll give you my prophet for an even trade. I was thinking about getting another bike and I am really a generous person. :)

LOL...on a serious note, WOW!!! I am soooooo Jealous. I don't think I'd ever spring for a bike that expensive, so I guess winning one would be the only way. What an awesome story. I'm saying a little prayer right now. Maybe when I get home it will be answered. ;)

Velocity Bicycles

Postby ZMAN on Fri Jul 13, 2007 10:46 am

Myke Berna your Ventana Dealer in Winters. The guy who won the single speed drawing at PRC and then put it back in the drawing for someone else, is the owner of Velocity Bicycle, I called him the next day after I won the X-5 drawing, about trying to swap out my Large X-5 complete bike for a medium size frame more my size. He didn't have a complete bike but he did have a Medium frame Saltamontes which suited my riding style better anyway, so he stepped up and took care of me when no other dealer would including Ventana. Great build, great fit. Velocity is in Winters about an hour away but worth the trip for a great wrench. He charged me very little to swap all the parts to the new medium frame, upgraded my tires to tubless of my choice and custom fitted the bike to me after careful evaluation of my old ride. It works great. Just wanted to let you know you have a great dealer in Winters, take good care of him.

Thanks

Apparently Myke is also friends with the guy I was riding with on Wed. My friend also said that he is a great guy and even though my friend lives in Davis he tries to buy things from Myke when he needs them.

Awesome bike! Good to see it going to someone that will put it to good use.
I think it was great that Myke gave back the single speed he won. Looks like I may have to make a trip to Winters to support a great shop.
